The Swedish American Museum Center is a bustling center of Swedish art, history, culture, and educational activities and programs. Each year more than 40,000 visitors enjoy the special exhibits, Swedish language classes, crafts, genealogy classes, concerts, lectures, films, and interactive Children’s Museum of Immigration. On the museum’s first floor gallery exhibits featuring world-class art, craft, and design rotate four times annually.

The permanent exhibit, “The Dream of America: Swedish Immigration to Chicago,” contains artifacts from the mass immigration of Swedes to Chicago beginning 150 years ago. Learn about their struggles, and see how they forged new lives in the city. Step back in time at the Children’s Museum of Immigration, an interactive journey through history for kids ages three to twelve. Churn butter, milk a cow, or gather eggs on a nineteenth-century Swedish farm. Pack an immigrant’s trunk and board a steamer for the New World.

Museum Center: Tuesday–Friday, 10:00 am–4:00 pm; Saturday and Sunday, 11:00 am–4:00 pm
Children’s Museum: Tuesday–Friday, 1:00 pm–4:00 pm; Saturday and Sunday, 11:00 am–4:00 pm
Closed: Mondays. May be closed major U.S. holidays

Directions:
Take CTA: Clark Street bus #22 and Foster Ave bus #92 stop within feet of the Museum Center. Or take the CTA Red line El trail to Berwyn. Turn left on Berwyn and walk west to Clark Street. Turn left on Clark Street. The museum is half a block from Foster Avenue.

Notes:
On rare occasions this attraction closes early due to private functions, outside of the control of Go Chicago Card.
